I was disappointed to learn today that the governor has backed out of three debates with me he agreed to that had been organized by the AARP.

Citizens on Maui, Hawaii Island and Oahu just lost these important opportunities to compare the top two candidates for the state's highest office in face-to-face meetings. Canceling so late after arrangements had already been made by the AARP and its members is disrespectful to our kupuna.

As my record and campaign have demonstrated, I believe in open government and an open political process, listening to all voices and inviting all perspectives and points of view, and I have agreed to every invitation to debate or meet the governor during this campaign.
