“I have concluded that the best person for the job is already on the job…”
I have seen David Ige be a leader in many different capacities for 30 years, from the technology and telecommunications field to the State Legislature. Even today, I am thoroughly impressed with everything that he has accomplished for our State.
When I was the State School Superintendent, for decades there were many discussions about how we were going to improve schools, especially on the Leeward Coast where it is hot and humid. Many others came and talked about what they were going to do to help cool the classrooms, but Governor Ige was the first person who came up with an action-oriented plan. He organized financing, and installed air conditioners in classrooms. I understand there are nearly 1,300 classrooms at the moment that have air conditioning because of this. He kept his promise and more.
I live in Kāne‘ohe, and traffic on Kahekili Highway has always been a major challenge. As a former Representative and Senator for that District, we could not come up with a solution. Governor Ige and the Department of Transportation came up with a plan to build a contraflow third lane and it is amazing what it has done to reduce traffic congestion. In fact, many people have talked about how it should have been done a long time ago. Governor Ige took a long standing problem, suggested a very simple cost-effective solution which did not cost tens of millions of dollars like previous proposals, and the people are very happy with it.
These are just two personal examples of how Governor Ige has proven that he is an effective leader who brings fiscal responsibility, common sense solutions, and a clear vision for Hawai‘i.
I have concluded that the best person for the job is already on the job, and I plan to support Governor David Ige for reelection. In my personal interactions with the Governor, I am very impressed with his wife and family. He is a family man and a humble leader for our State.
