Big Island Volcano Community Endorses Ige for Second Term

(Honolulu, HI) -- The Volcano Community Action Network (VCAN), a grassroots organization comprised of residents from the greater Volcano area, Pahala and Mt.View districts on the Big Island of Hawai‘i, have endorsed Governor David Ige for asecond term. The VCANs endorsement was announced on Tuesday, July 3.

“I am thankful and accept this important community endorsement. VCAN is actively involved within the health of their rural environment and way of life. Their future is dependent upon a nourishing environment and we have been actively working with them in many areas to ensure a healthy and sustainable future. With the recent Volcano eruptions and disaster, attention to their needs is critical. I do understand the challenges they face, including the hundreds of neighboring families who have lost everything. My administration and I will continue to work closely with the community, Mayor Harry Kim, the Civil Defense and other emergency management personnel to ensure the residents of the Puna community have the resources necessary --- from temporary shelters to long-term permanent housing options and economic and agricultural recovery,” said Governor David Ige.

VCAN endorsed Governor Ige based on his actions taken and policies on energy, climate change, agriculture, environmental issues and preserving the local culture. They also credited Governor Ige for his hands-on approach and securing federal funding assistance for area residents facing the volcanic disaster.
