Governor Ige understands the everyday struggles of the people of Hawaiʻi because he has experienced first hand of the economic challenges that many families face. He worked his way through the University of Hawaiʻi working at a pineapple cannery and knows that everyday people should not work sunup to sundown and still be stuck in poverty.
"Regardless of where someone works, no one should have to choose between caring for his or her loved-ones or putting food on the table.”
Governor Ige supports Paid Family Leave and making higher education more affordable and accessible. Our workforce will be stronger and families will thrive when employees can balance their work, personal and family needs without the undue stress of being forced to take unpaid leave during times of crisis.
