World War II Chaplains Honored

[Taken from starbulletin.com's Features on September 9, 2006]

On Sunday,September 10th, Combat Chaplains of the 100th Battalion and 442nd RCT were honored at the University of Hawaii Architecture Auditorium.

The event was held to "remember and celebrate... the Chaplains' lives and service with their family and friends" as well as gift the University of Hawaii at Manoa Library's Japanese American Veterans Collection with Chaplains Yost & Higuchi's personal papers.

Chaplain Hiro Higuchi of the 442nd RCT was the founder of the Waipahu United Church of Christ, Pearl City Community Church, Manoa Valley Church and Waimea Christian Church on Kauai. He often enlisted his 442nd friends to help in the construction work, and records at the Waipahu and Pearl City churches show that they came willingly at the chaplain's call. He passed away in 1981.
